No Results Found Steam Refund Policy

Free to download, technically still refundable. How Steam's refund window applies to a free-to-play mystery.

Steam Refund Policy

No Results Found is a free-to-play Steam mystery. The refund page on Steam still exists for it. This page is the refund walkthrough the search box keeps asking about: whether free games are refundable, what conditions Valve checks, and how to file a refund request without losing your save. For the price itself, stay on Free on Steam. For the patch notes that came with the launch and Patch 1.2, stay on the Updates Hub.

Are free games refundable on Steam?

Yes, in principle. Steam’s published refund policy treats free games the same way it treats paid games on the technical check. The store records a $0 purchase, and Valve’s refund button is still available for the game in your library. The actual refund amount is, of course, zero. The point of the refund flow for a free game is not the money. It is the request to remove the title from your library, clear the playtime counter, or document a hardware problem.

The catch is that Steam’s refund eligibility is the standard two-week / two-hour window. Free games often satisfy the two-hour cutoff inside a single sitting because the game is around two hours long for a first ending. After that, Steam’s automated check starts asking for staff review, and the request is less likely to succeed.

The standard refund check

Valve’s automated refund check asks three questions. Did you buy the game within the last fourteen days. Have you played it for less than two hours. Is the request type a standard refund, an in-game purchase, or a pre-purchase. For a free game, the first answer is technically yes (the library entry was created within fourteen days of your most recent install) and the second answer becomes the gating check.

If your two-hour playtime has not rolled over, Steam will let you file the refund yourself without contacting support. If the two-hour check has already tripped, the request falls into the manual review queue. The manual queue is honest about hardware defects, accidental purchases, and broken first-run experiences, and it is slow about second thoughts on a finished mystery.

What to put in the refund note

For a free game that you simply want to clear from your library, the refund note can be one line: “I would like to remove this game from my library.” Steam support will mark the refund as processed and remove the title. Your achievements are kept on Steam’s global stats page but disappear from your profile. The save file in your userdata folder stays put until you uninstall.

For a refund because the game did not work, name the hardware. Examples that are honest and verifiable: “My 21:9 ultrawide panel shows a black screen until I update past 1.0.1,” “The search field misreads my Japanese full-width input until I downgrade the IME setting,” “The Mac build crashes on first launch after Patch 1.2 on my Intel MacBook Pro.” Those notes help the next player and help the developer. The Known Issues page lists the patches that already fixed the most common complaints; cite the patch number that did not fix yours.

How to file the refund

Open Steam. Click Help > Steam Support. Pick No Results Found from “My recent purchases” if it shows up there, or pick “A game I have that I want removed from my library” if it does not. The form walks you through three fields: a category (technical issue, refund, library removal), a subcategory, and a free-text note. Submit. The reply arrives by email within a few business days. If your two-hour check has tripped, the reply explains the manual review window.

Family Sharing borrows should refund to the purchasing account. The borrower cannot refund a game they did not buy, even if the price was zero. This is the same rule that applies to paid games. The borrower can still request that the lender refund the title if the household wants a clean library.

Refund and achievements

A refund wipes the title from your library and removes the achievements from your profile. The global Steam stats page still credits the playtime and the achievements at the time of the refund. If you have been chasing DODGE Master for the rare 1.4 percent badge, that pop on Steam’s global page does not roll back. It does, however, disappear from your profile.

If you intend to re-buy the game later, the playtime counter resets on the new install. Steam does not store old playtime on the global stats page when the library entry is gone. The Achievement Hunting Order treats a refunded-then-rebought run as a clean slate for both endings.

What a refund does not do

A refund does not delete your save files. They stay under userdata/<SteamID>/4911390/remote/ until you uninstall the game or wipe the folder manually. A refund does not delete your screenshots from Steam’s screenshot manager; those persist under your profile. A refund does not stop the developer from patching the game; new builds keep shipping. A refund does not reset Steam Cloud for that game; if you re-install, Cloud will offer your old save back as a conflict.

For the file layout, the Steam Cloud and Save Files page has the exact paths and the backup workflow. For the developer-side response to bug reports that look like refund candidates, the Bug Report Notes page has the template that goes to zzangdolgames@gmail.com instead of Steam support.

What to do before you click refund

The pre-refund checklist: confirm the game is on the latest build (Patch 1.2 as of this wiki’s latest edit), confirm you have tried a 16:9 windowed mode if the screen looks broken, confirm your IME is set to half-width if the search field freezes on Japanese or Korean input, and confirm the report answer is in the same language as the in-game UI if the report keeps rejecting your filing. The Report Answers Rejected page covers the last one.

If those checks pass and the game is still not for you, refund it. The Steam store policy exists so that the refund button is honest. The two-hour clock is the only friction, and for a free two-hour mystery, that friction is roughly zero. You have the right to a clean library.

Why the wiki has this page

Search-engine queries for “refund No Results Found” land here because the question is real even when the price is zero. A free game can still fail on a specific machine. The refund system is the same for every Steam title; only the dollar amount differs. This wiki keeps the refund workflow here so the question has an answer that does not depend on knowing Steam Support’s URL by heart.
